Lot and Garonne to get WiMax, wireless broadband is coming

The Lot and Garonne will soon be covered by WiMax, according to the website 47SansFil. This is going to be great for those who are having problems getting connected with ADSL. WiMax is often called Wireless Broadband, an enhanced version of WiFi.

However it is not the same as WiFi and you will need new equipment or devices that support WiMax. Coverage should be good as it can provide Internet connections at a maximum reliable range of around 10 to 12 kilometers. Full technical details can be found on Wikipedia.

The Conseil Général of the Lot-et-Garonne created the website to inform and to show where WiMax is available. So far it seems that Villeneuve Sur Lot is covered, stretching from Pimeuih down to Condom and Langdon across to Fumel. See the map for more details.

I live in Lot et Garonne where wimax has just become available. There is a phone package for 10€ per month but I am unsure if I will need new phones and also what is the cost to anyone on a land line ringing my Wimax number? Any experience of Wimax?

Mike, thanks for the comment but at the moment I am unsure. I am hoping current WiMax users can help out. I have asked my Twitter friends but so far no luck. I will leave another comment or post something when I find out. Cheers- Bob
