Watch out for scam bookings

Not all spam arrives in your inbox. For gite and holiday rental owners, checking that a booking is genuine and not some way to trick you out of money is also something they have to be aware of and know how to identify.

Geoffrey from GiteInBrittany.com nearly got caught out but by checking phone numbers and odd phrasing of words, he was able to stay out of trouble.

Maybe it was a sixth-sense or maybe it was the "i will like to" phrase that caused me to re-look at the enquiry, and in particular to check out the telephone number used.

Another Google search brought me to a list of international dialling codes which I searched for dialling code 225, and voila my concerns were realised as I found that 00 225 corresponded to Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast).

As we run a number of hotel booking sites, we see this kind of thing come in quite often. Always a good idea to be vigilant.
