I have been asked before about the alternatives for those who can not get ADSL. A normal dial-up modem is normally the answer but then what do you do if you do not have that option either? This can happen if you live somewhere with out telephone lines which in France can and does happen.
I have come across a company (via ThisFrenchForum.com) that provides satellite based Internet access. El Molino System S.L. are providers and installers of satellite systems to get you connected to the Internet were ever you are. Here is an introduction to them from their website...
EMS has been successfully providing communication systems to home users, small & medium sized enterprises since 2004. Our mission is to provide a personal service which reflects the needs of our customers and their business. We install systems at any location World Wide.
With our "Broadband via satellite" services you have a permanent 2-way connection to the internet that will save many hours delay in logging-on, downloading large files, surfing the web, downloading E-mail and waiting for your connection to respond.
Because your connection is permanent, E-mail will arrive straight in your inbox and you will never get a ‘busy signal’ when trying to connect.
All Internet communication goes to and from the satellite and no other connection, like a phone line, is needed. There are some systems that do require that, making them not as good an option as you think.
Satellite services are used in locations where a landline (dial-up or ADSL) or terrestrial (WIFI) Internet access is not available. Internet access via satellite is available worldwide, including vessels at sea.Two-way satellite Internet service sends data from remote sites via satellite to a hub, which then sends the data to the Internet.
They have options for a single PC connection right up to a multitude plus different access plans.
For many people this could be an answer they have been looking for.
