Real life get together

During my travels around the Internet, I have noticed there are many sites whose authors are based in the Dordogne region. Blogging or running a website can be a lonesome activity even if you have online friends, so I would like to know if anyone is interested in meeting up.

I am not proposing anything formal, just a bit of a 'get together' possibly in a bar but in a convenient location. The idea is that we can talk about computers, blogging, websites and anything else. Most people, when you say that you 'blog', will give you a funny look. So this is a chance to meet others who won't think you are mad!

I hope that we can swap ideas, techniques, websites and anything else people think is good or bad. Beginners, experts or those who just surf are welcome.

I live in the 47 on the border with the 24, Sauveterre La Lemance to be exact. The point of actual meeting can be made central to fit in with everyone else. Though I am willing to have the meet up at my home where I have Wi Fi if anyone wants to bring a laptop (for showing off websites etc). The date of meeting is left open and be agreed by the majority who wish to be there.

If you want to come along then drop me a line via the contact form rather than leave a comment.

Please note, I am not selling anything!

Good idea! Unfortunately I won't be down in time for your first get-together. Put me down for the next one! Hope you enjoy it! I've just found your site via TFL....glad I did! Cheers Sarah

Hi Bob, Good idea but maybe initially so that it can be extended to UK based Francophiles it should be a Skype chat in real time? What do you think? Regards Phil

Sarah, can you contact me via the contact form on this site so you can let me know when you are going to be around? You have a nice blog by the way! Phil, Skype is a good idea. There are features available to have conference calls, if anyone else is interested then I will look in to it. In the mean time, do Skype me. I am online when I am at the computer. Thanks both for you for the feed back. Cheers!

Dear Bob, Your proposal sounds somewhat geeky. If your correspondents want a social life both on and off-line, try one of the ex-pat lists such as La Vie en France http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LVeF/ Computers often get mentioned, but it's usually when they break down and stop the chat! regards, Ian

Ian, It may indeed seem geeky but it is not meant to! There are many bloggers around my own area, so to organise a 'real life' get together where we all have a common interest seems logical. It will give everyone a chance to discuss problems and swap ideas and solutions. I do hope that computers will not dominate the event! Most bloggers write about their own personal experiences or about their holiday property. So real life comes in to it quite a bit. Anyway, thanks for the comment Ian.

Hi Ian Bloggers have feelings you know lol! :-o)) Sometimes we have to make an effort to meet face to face. I personally have spent the last two months working on projects around my farm and it can get quite absorbing. I have not changed my underwear since Christmas and I have forgotten how to drive the car lol:-0)) What Bob proposes sounds good and computers is only I suspect the reason to meet. like any other social it would probably break down into rude jokes at some stage:-0) All the best and your place looks nice, not far from us here at Monflanquin. Phil

i think that would be pretty cool - it just gives an ice breaker to start the evening off that we have a common interest in blogging - no doubt whatsoever it would soon b get around1 to other topics too - in this unsociable world where you often need an ice breaker to get a real life conversation going its a start for like minded souls such as bloggers to get out and about! Im in definitely.

Phil seeing as you are quite close to me, fancy meeting next week? That would be the Friday the 9th. Splendour, you as well? There is a bar here where a few English meet and there is a Pizza van as well! Anyone else interested?

Hi, I'm in the 24500 area and I'm really keen to quickly ramp up on blogging skills and get tips etc. I'm about to cycle 1000 miles, canoe across the channel for charity right through our area to S.france and want some blogging tips to promote the venture. I'm up for this Fri - Eymet was it then? Good to meet some other IT folk around here too!

Bonjour Bob, I left you a comment in 'This French Life' where I saw an article about your initiative. I am French but as I have lived in the UK for over 21 years, I is also a little part of Englishness in me :-) I have set up a Web design business in Dordogne and I have a great deal of experience to share. Too bad you live so far from Périgueux. If you do come my way, please let me know and we will go for a coffee or something stronger. William
